A downtown Boston building was evacuated and a firefighter was injured responding to a 2-alarm fire on Wednesday.
The fire was reported at 245 Summer St. in the Fort Point Channel area around 12:15 p.m., according to fire officials.
Firefighters found heavy smoke in the rear of the 12-story occupied commercial building when they arrived at the scene.
More than 2,500 employees were evacuated from the building. One firefighter was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Video from eyewitnesses showed multiple fire trucks and crowds of people watching the scene from the bridges that cross the channel.
Crews contained the fire to an electrical vault in the basement, fire officials said shortly after 1 p.m. Eversource responded to shut down power to the vault.
Around 2:50 p.m., fire officials said the fire had been knocked down after crews gained entry to the vault.
