After a days-long search, a Massachusetts man who went missing from a beach in Hawaii has been found dead, the Coast Guard confirmed Tuesday.
The body of the 24-year-old man, last seen Saturday on a Big Island beach, was found by the Hawaii County Fire Department, the Coast Guard said. The man's family was notified Monday night.
The man was last seen walking along Papakolea Green Sand Beach, the Coast Guard said in a statement. His belongings were left on the beach.
An extensive search was launched along the coast and included Coast Guard, Navy and fire department helicopter crews.
On Saturday evening, the Hawaii County Fire Department was notified by a good Samaritan of the man’s disappearance. The fire department then contacted the Coast Guard.
