Pete Frates’ dad, John, says the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has become the “largest viral fundraiser of all time” and raised about $158 million for the ALS Association. A decade later, the Frates family are hoping to relaunch that challenge.

Ten years since the Ice Bucket Challenge spread around the world, raising awareness about ALS and funds for research, Boston College held an event called CEO Soak Boston where they invited local business leaders to take the challenge in honor of alum Pete Frates.

Ten years later, Nancy Frates is celebrating the legacy of the international sensation that her husband, Pete Frates, built out of his ALS diagnosis. The Ice Bucket Challenge has raised more than $250 million for ALS research, and the Frates family will soon return to Fenway Park to celebrate its success.

On Aug. 1, the Red Sox and the Pete Frates Foundation will commemorate the anniversary of the viral social media challenge that helped raise hundreds of millions of dollars for ALS research.
