Sydney Welch is a meteorologist who joined the NBC10 Boston and NECN's First Alert weather team in October 2023. You can catch her on NBC during the weekend evening newscasts.
She joins us from Lynchburg, Virginia, where she was the Good Morning Virginia meteorologist for three years. During those three years, she earned the prestigious Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Seal of Approval and her master’s degree in applied meteorology from Mississippi State University. Before that, Sydney got her Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology from Florida State University and began her career in Bristol, Virginia.
Sydney also built strong relations with the Central and Southwest Virginia communities. There, she worked with the Lynchburg Humane Society fostering cats. She also did many school and Girl Scout troop visits to peak young girls' interest in STEM careers.
Sydney is no stranger to snow and snow forecasting — she is from Upstate New York. Her interest in meteorology came at a young age from the many snow and ice storms she witnessed.
