Sign of Summer: Boston's Frog Pond Reopens Thursday

The reopening will include a celebration starting at 11 a.m.

It’s the first time since 2019; it was closed because of the pandemic.

The Boston Common Frog Pond spray pool reopened Thursday in a sign of summer as the city reopens from the coronavirus pandemic.

The popular spot opened for the summer at 11 a.m. with a special ceremony attended by Mayor Kim Janey. It had been closed since 2019 because of COVID-19 restrictions.

On Thursday, Hood ice cream sandwiches were given out while supplies last, and the spray pool's mascot, Frog Pond Freddie, made an appearance at the event.

Other features for the opening included a LEGOLAND Discovery Center Boston table along with the New England Dairy Mobile Dairy Bar.

The spray pool is open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. until Labor Day.
