CVS Health will roll out a free, rapid COVID-19 test at its new drive-through testing site at a Rhode Island casino, Gov. Gina Raimondo announced Monday.

The testing site, which will be by-appointment only, opens Monday at Twin River Casino in Lincoln.

Results from test being administered at the site could be ready in as little as 15 minutes, the governor said.

ConvenientMD and the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation have partnered together to open a drive-thru COVID-19 testing site. It will open at noon on Friday, April 3, at Harvard Pilgrim Health Care’s Quincy headquarters’ parking lot, located at 1600 Colony Drive.

The site is expected to perform about 1,000 tests per day, doubling the state’s testing capacity, Raimondo added.

“Today marks a giant leap forward in our efforts to combat this virus,” she said in a statement. “Making testing rapid and readily available is the key to slowly reopening our economy, and today we are one step closer to that goal.”

Woonsocket-based company says Rhode Island and Georgia are the only two states where it’s offering the rapid tests so far.
