Man arrested, charged with kidnapping, rape in Everett, police say

The victim was safe and receiving medical treatment, Everett Police Chief Steve Mazzie said, adding that the investigation was ongoing.

A man is in custody in a kidnapping and rape case out of Everett, Massachusetts, police said Saturday evening.

The incident that led to the man being arrested occurred earlier Saturday, according to Everett Police Chief Steve Mazzie.

The victim was safe and receiving medical treatment, Mazzie said, adding that the investigation was ongoing.

Everett police identified the man on Sunday as 35-year-old Jersson Canales. He's being charged with kidnapping, rape, aggravated rape, and attempted rape in connection with Saturday's incident. He's being held pending his arraignment Monday in district court.

Further details were not immediately available, including possible attorney information for Canales.
