A girl from Middleboro, Massachusetts has been recognized with a national award.
It started out as a small lemonade stand to raise money for her sick friend, but nearly $60,000 later, Ella Morrison has been named a national winner of the Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes.
Morrison opened the lemonade stand when she was six years old when her best friend Hailey was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor.
After Hailey passed away, Morrison continued to sell lemonade and donated the proceeds to cancer research.
On Friday, Morrison was at Children's Hospital in Boston to donate books, hoping the gifts will put a smile on the kids' faces.
"We've done the book drive this year, pajama drive and logo drive. And we've donated to the Boston Children's Hospital, so the kids can have something to do while they're in treatment," she said.
Only 25 kids each year are awarded the Barron Prize, receiving a $5,000 cash award to support their service work or higher education.
