The DA's office announced Monday morning that the suspected shooter was taken into custody just before 1 a.m. after surrendering himself. He was identified as Jarrod Hegarty, 32, of Townsend.

Hegarty is being charged with two counts of armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a firearm, and possession of a firearm without an FID card.

He is expected in court on Monday for an arraignment at Fitchburg District Court.

The names of the victims have not been released. The person who survived is in critical but stable condition, authorities said.

Overnight, investigators were seen collecting multiple bags of evidence – in the street, on the sidewalk, and inside two businesses.

An investigation is ongoing.
