A Massachusetts man faced a judge Monday after a deadly shooting Sunday evening in Fitchburg.
The shooting happened shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday on Main Street. The Worcester County District Attorney's Office said one person, later identified as 32-year-old Joshua Bell, was killed. Another man was wounded, being left in critical but stable condition.

Prosecutors announced Monday morning that the suspected shooter, 32-year-old Jarrod Hegarty of Townsend, had been arrested.
Hegarty was arraigned Monday at Fitchburg District Court. He pleaded not guilty to charges including armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a firearm, and firearm possession without an FID card.

Prosecutors say Hegarty was eating at a with the victims at a nearby restaurant right before the shooting. They argued in court that he fired six rounds at them before running into a building and prompting a standoff with police.
That standoff lasted six hours and kept part of Main Street closed.
Overnight, investigators were seen collecting multiple bags of evidence – in the street, on the sidewalk, and inside two businesses.
Hegarty was ordered held without bail. He is due back in court next Monday for a dangerousness hearing.
