"We have another brazen shooting resulting in another tragic loss," Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden said.

"My heart is heavy for the families who will be forever changed from what took place tonight, and the friends and loved ones who have lost someone very important to them, and to this entire community, which has already been reeling from incidents over the last couple weeks," Mayor Michelle Wu said.

Investigators believe this was a targeted attack, and that this was not a drive-by shooting.

"This is another heinous act that we've had recently," said Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox . "We need the public's help with this. This stuff needs to stop, and we're going to make sure that we're focusing in all the places we need to be to make sure we curtail some of this stuff that's going on around here."

"The fact that this took place inside a barber shop, a hub for the community, that is supposed to be a safe space for everyone," Wu said.

"Where there is disproportionate violence in the city, there should be a disproportionate amount of resources placed in those hot spots of violence," said Rev. Kevin Peterson who lives near the barber shop.

Police have not said if the man who was killed was an employee or a customer.
