Woman, 33, Dead After Shooting in Mattapan, Boston Police Say

Boston police have identified the victim as Jasmine Burrell, 33, of Mattapan.

A woman was killed early Sunday morning in a shooting in Boston's Mattapan neighborhood, police said.

Boston police responded to a report of a shooting just after 4:45 a.m. at an apartment building on Fairlawn Avenue and found a woman suffering from gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Boston EMS, police said.

The victim was identified later Sunday as 33-year-old Jasmine Burrell, of Mattapan. A vigil was held for Burrell later Sunday night.

Police have not released any suspect information or said what may have led up to the deadly shooting.

Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden said investigators are working hard to gather information at this point, and his office will release more information when it can, however, "it’s clear that this is a terribly sad situation."

“All homicides are tragic and each is tragic in its own unique way," he added in a statement.

The investigation into Burrell's death is active and ongoing.
