“I heard a loud — what sounded like a truck door being slammed shut,” he told NBC10 Boston Thursday.
Eyewitnesses said the driver appeared to slow down but then drove off.
Monika Raci, who owns Newton Square Pizza across the street, ran out to help the boy and console his mother.
“I just said to her, ‘Keep talking. Don’t move him. Don’t move his head. Just keep taking. Just say good things,’” Raci said.
The boy is expected to recover.
The crash happened at a busy rotary where Belanus said he sees more than one crash a week, and that some take out part of his fence.
“It creates a situation where people don’t interact in a very good way here,” he said.
