The teen had been swinging on a rope swing and jumping into the pond when he went under. Framingham Deputy Police Chief Sean Riley said officers quickly arrived on the scene and attempted to resuscitate him.

The victim, from Framingham, was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Riley said the tree limb that had held the rope swing had been taken down.

Calling it a "tragic accident," Riley warned residents to use caution when swimming, saying the city does not have lifeguards on duty yet.

"I think we all know that, you know, even shallow water, if you don't know how to swim and you go under and you panic," he said.

Riley added that the victim lived in Framingham but did not attend school there.
