Authorities say two male victims were shot in a residential Wakefield neighborhood.
Two people were shot Tuesday evening in Wakefield, Massachusetts, according to police.
At a press conference shortly before 11 p.m., Dep. Chief Craig Calabrese said Wakefield police responded shortly before 8 p.m. to Lakeshore Drive, where two male victims were found suffering from gunshot wounds.

The victims were transported to area hospitals for treatment, Calabrese said. He did not have any further information about their conditions.

Police said they are searching for "an unknown number of suspects," noting that the scene is secure and officers have a heavy presence in the area, including around the Cumberland Farms nearby on Lowell Street.
Investigators added that the shooting is believed to have been targeted and not random.
"It's really scary, this is a really nice neighborhood down in Wakefield," said resident Rosemarie Decesaris "We heard the police go by our house, so we came here to check it out. It's just scary, and something like this never happens here."
