Two Massachusetts high school soccer players who allegedly shoved a game official have been suspended from playing sports.

The Boston Globe reports the two players from Martha's Vineyard Regional High School have been barred from participating in any high school sports for a year.

According to video footage reviewed by the Globe, the players hit the official after their team lost the final playoff game of the season.

Martha's Vineyard athletic director Mark McCarthy says the school has also taken "appropriate disciplinary action.''

The Martha's Vineyard Times reports Principal Sara Dingledy sent a letter to parents Thursday calling the students' actions ``an embarrassment to our program and our school community.''

The school has not named the students.

The official has asked to not be identified. He has not pressed criminal charges.
