Police and emergency personnel responded and took the boy to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

His name is not being released at this time, the district attorney said.

Brockton Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Marchetti said it was a tough situation for everyone involved and they are heartbroken for the family.

"It's an unimaginable tragedy," he said. "Nobody wants to go to these calls."

He said arriving firefighters found the child already out of the pool, with a family member providing CPR.

The incident remains under investigation by state and Brockton police.
