Although periodic light snow continued into Monday, the sun angle this time of the year is equivalent to mid-October, and we wouldn’t expect much accumulation on an October day, nor will we expect much additional accumulation on Monday.
In fact, the exceptional snowfall is already slowly melting in many areas, but a shot of colder air is en route and will substantially slow any melting this week after Monday.
What this means is we want to clear driveways and walkways of this water-logged snow quickly, because it will freeze in place with lows in the teens Monday night. The snow will be hard-pressed to soften in the days ahead.
Of course, while we mention clearing it quickly, that does come with an important caveat: heavy, wet snow means difficult shoveling – not only a workout for the muscles but truly a cardiovascular workout, as well. This means taking breaks to avoid overexertion.
Some black ice will develop as the colder air moves in Monday night, though that will melt away during the day Tuesday with the help of sunshine. Tuesday night may bring some scattered snow showers with a transient disturbance, but no big storms are in the forecast for a while.
