5 hospitalized after Foxborough ambulance crash, including EMTs, patient and child

An ambulance and a Honda Pilot collided head-on Thursday evening in Foxborough; a young child was airlifted to Massachusetts General Hospital

Two EMTs and a patient were among five people hospitalized Thursday after an ambulance and an SUV collided head-on in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

The crash happened around 7 p.m. on Main Street, the Norfolk County District Attorney's Office said. It involved a Honda Pilot driven by a 40-year-old woman, whose young daughter was in the back seat, and an ambulance that was transporting a 77-year-old man.

The 77-year-old wasn't thrown from the ambulance and was found still strapped to the stretcher in the back of the vehicle, the Foxborough Fire Department said Friday. He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital for evaluation.

The 8-year-old girl was flown to Massachusetts General Hospital to undergo advanced treatment, officials said.

Two EMTs, both in their 20s, were also hospitalized, as was SUV's driver.

"I was crying. It was awful, I was shaking just thinking about it. It was bad," said Taylor Spencer, who lives across from where the crash happened.

"I just heard a huge smash, and I said, 'What is that?' So, I flew out and I saw the accident and I said, 'Oh, my God,'" said Shauna Haggerty, who lives next to Spencer.

Nearby neighbors and drivers passing by rushed to help all five people who were involved.

"I heard her say 'mommy,'" recounted Haggerty. "So, let's hope everything is OK.”

"I had a hard time sleeping it was not something that was fun to see," added Spencer.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. The district attorney's office said its motor vehicle homicide unit responded to the scene, alongside state and local police.
