78-year-old man dies after being struck by car in Wakefield

Wakefield police on the scene of a pedestrian crash on Water Street Wednesday.

A 78-year-old man has died after he was hit by a car in Wakefield, Massachusetts, on Wednesday afternoon.

Wakefield police said the crash happened at an intersection on Water Street around 2:30 p.m. when a pedestrian who was walking along the street was struck by a Ford Mustang Mach-E that was exiting a driveway adjacent to Water Street.

The pedestrian, identified as Joseph Dow, of Wakefield, was taken to Melrose/Wakefield Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Ford, a 38-year-old woman whose name has not been released, remained at the scene.

The crash is being investigated by the Middlesex District Attorney's Office and Wakefield and state police.

No further details were released.
