24-Year-Old Woman Killed in Dorchester Shooting

A woman died Monday night after being shot in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood.

Police responded to the intersection of Charles and Ditson streets after a shooting was reported shortly after 9:30 p.m. Boston Police Commissioner William Gross said a 24-year-old woman was found shot in a car.

Gross said the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Police initially said a victim had been taken to a hospital.

The name of the victim has not been released. It's unclear if any arrests have been made in connection with the fatal shooting.

Monday's homicide in Dorchester, which is the 47th homicide of the year in Boston, follows a string of fatal shootings.

Ronald Carroll, the director of the Boys and Girls Club Mattapan Teen Center, says community leaders need to increase their involvement.

"I’m calling myself out, let’s be clear," Carroll said."quite frankly, I can be doing a better job. having my voice heard more. connecting people as I know I am capable in doing."

Residents like Yashira Torres say the shootings are causing them to fear for their children's safety, especially since Monday's shooting took place near a preschool and another school.

"Right in front of your house, somebody gets shot like that, that's crazy," she said. "I don't want my kids to get shot around here either."

Cyrus Kisitu, a Dorchester father of four who lives down the street from Monday's shooting, told NBC10 Boston he was still shaken by the homicide.

"Dorchester's not safe anymore. Dorchester is not safe. I'm telling you because so many people are moving," he said. "I don't feel safe anymore because it's like right in front of my house and I have kids."

Authorities are asking for the public's help finding a suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call 1-800-494-TIPS or 617-343-4470.
