The Veterans’ Services office in Lawrence, Massachusetts is inviting everyone to the funeral of a World War II veteran who has no living family members left.
Veteran James McCue died Thursday at Cedar View Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, the Eagle-Tribune reports. He was 97.
A Lawrence native, McCue enlisted in November 1943 and battled in an anti-aircraft artillery unity. Francisco Urena, Secretary of Veterans Affairs, told the Tribune that McCue was among the personnel who helped liberate France.
McCue’s wife died before him, leaving the vet without any family members to attend his funeral. Volunteers are invited to attend to memorial instead.
McCue’s funeral will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday in Bellevue Cemetery in Lawrence. Those interested in paying their respects to the World War II veteran are encouraged to attend his services.
