Police said they were called to an address in the Edgeworth area shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday for a report of an injured person.

They found a male victim on the sidewalk in front of the residence suffering from "extensive sharp force injuries" to his body. He was pronounced dead a short time later. His name has not been released.

Police said a preliminary investigation showed that two men, who are known to each other, were having an argument, and the suspect, Joshua Roush, 43, of Malden, attacked the victim with a weapon.

The type of weapon has not been disclosed, and it's not yet clear what prompted the their argument.

Malden police located Roush inside the residence and were able to place him under arrest. He was arraigned on a murder charge in Malden District Court on Monday afternoon, prosecutors said.

A judge ordered that he be held without bail; his next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 29, according to prosecutors. It wasn't immediately clear if Roush had an attorney who could speak to the charge.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, according to the Middlesex District Attorney's Office.
