Families of people killed during acts of violence are often left feeling overwhelmed and in shock. They have to navigate planning a funeral, the criminal justice system, and of course, the grief. The Louis D. Brown Peace Institute was founded by a woman who took her own pain over her son's death and found the strength to help others.

The City of Boston provides data on shooting incidents reported to police. The map below includes incidents where at least one person was struck by a bullet. Advocates stress that it's important to know that while gun violence can strike anywhere, some communities need more support than others.
