This is the first homicide of 2024 and the thrid in less than a month. Lawrence Mayor Brian de Peña says it's a sad situation and he plans to increase patrols in the area.

Newly elected City Council President Jeovanny Rodriguez says he is frustrated with the senseless violence.

“How are we going to approach this? This is something where we need to sit down and go to the table and go to the different committees to discuss the possibilities, solutions and make sure this doesn’t happen again.”

State and local police and the district attorney's office are investigating.
