31-year-old seriously injured in early Christmas crash in Spencer

The 31-year-old from Spencer was seriously injured and was transported to UMass Memorial Medical Center, according to police.

A 31-year-old man was seriously injured in a crash early Christmas morning in Spencer, Massachusetts.

Spencer police said first responders working the holiday responded to a serious motor vehicle crash that occurred around 12:55 a.m. Monday at Paxton and Thompson Pond roads.

The Spencer Fire Department confirmed they responded for entrapment and that the man was removed from the vehicle.

The Spencer resident suffered significant injuries and was taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center, police said. He is expected to survive.

Speed was an obvious factor in the crash, police said.

According to police, the crash remains under investigation, part of which includes whether or not the vehicle was involved in a hit-and-run crash involving injury, before crashing in Spencer.

Police said the Worcester District Attorney's Office is involved in the investigation. When contacted by NBC10 Boston, they said they had no additional information to release at this time.

Worcester police said there were no hit-and-runs with injuries reported Sunday night or Monday morning. They said it's possible it just hasn't been reported yet, or that it took place somewhere else.
