‘Never in a million years thought this would happen': Man fatally shot at Brockton home

Police say that when they arrived they found a man, identified as 27 year-old Sederick Abreu, with a gunshot wound to the chest.

A young man was killed in a residential area of Brockton, Massachusetts on Sunday, March 31.

Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting early Sunday morning in Brockton, Massachusetts.

Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz said police responded at around 2:17 a.m. to a report of a man shot inside a home on Hoover Avenue.

"I'm freaking out," said a next door neighbor who wished to remain anonymous. "It's a common thing that happens, but when it happens that close to you, it makes you think."

Police say that when they arrived they found a man, identified as 27 year-old Sederick Abreu, with a gunshot wound to the chest.

"Sederick was someone who everyone would want in their life. His sense of humor, beautiful smile curly hair and genuine self was always recognized in whatever room he was in," said Tiara Martin, a friend of Abreu. "He was down to Earth and a go-getter. I never in a million years thought this would happen."

Abreau was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to authorities.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
