A small aircraft called a gyroplane crashed in Beverly, Massachusetts, Sunday morning, sending the pilot -- the only person on board -- to the hospital, officials said.
The crash took place about 11:35 a.m. at Beverly Regional Airport while the vehicle was taking off, according to the Federal Aviation Administration, which is investigating what happened.

Only one person was taken to the hospital, but the extent of their injuries was unknown, according to the Beverly Fire Department.
The injured person was not identified.
