‘Loving it': Ed Sheeran meets and greets fans in Ipswich

Calling all Ed Sheeran fans!

Some lucky people in Ipswich, Massachusetts, had the chance to share a pint with the Grammy winner as he opened a pop-up pub to shoot a music video for his new dingle, "Old Phone."

NBC10 Boston caught up with Sheeran while he was walking through town. We asked him how he was enjoying Ipswich.

"Yeah, loving it, how are you?" he answered.

He gave us some background information on the single he's promoting in Massachusetts.

"'Old Phone' is a song that I wrote after I was in a lawsuit, and I had to get my old devices and give them in, and I went through my old phone, it had all these text messages from friends that passed away, people I hadn't seen in about 10 years," Sheeran said. "That was kind of what inspired it."

So why'd he come to a small town on the North Shore of Massachusetts?

"I come from a small town in the U.K., and it's near a big town called Ipswich," the pop star explained. "I heard about this place, and I wanted to come and build the pub here, and just get involved with the community for the day."

Continuing through town, Sheeran went to Choate Bridge Pub, where he performed "Old Phone."

"Emotional. It was a tear-jerker," said one woman who was in the pub for the performance.

Elizabeth Chandler, who was his bartender at Choate Bridge, had kind words for Sheeran.

"He was very pleasant," she said. "He came in, he of course wanted a beer, and sang us a song. It was pretty cool."

From there, Sheeran continued on to the Heart and Soul Cafe and stopped at the Henry Bear's Park toy store, taking photos on his Ipswich tour and leaving memories along the way.

Sheeran's stop on the North Shore comes just days after he performed an acoustic set on St. Patrick's Day at The Dubliner in Boston.
