Several residents were rescued and then displaced late Tuesday night and two firefighters suffered minor injuries when an apartment building caught fire in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

It was an intense scene overnight at a 4-alarm fire in an eight-story building on Concord Avenue in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Two firefighters were injured, according to fire officials, and 30 people were displaced, according to the American Red Cross.

Several rescues were made, but no one suffered life threatening injuries, Cambridge Fire Chief Gerry Mahoney said.

Flames were seen shooting out of a third floor apartment when firefighters arrived just before midnight on Tuesday.

Because of the age of the building, it had no sprinkler system.

"Had there been fire sprinklers in this building this never would have progressed to the level that it did," Mahoney said.

Fire officials said they had to evacuate all 48 units of the apartment building.

There is no word yet on the cause of the blaze.
