A man had a medical incident before he lost control of his car and hit a utility pole and a house in Saugus, Massachusetts, on Friday morning, fire officials said.

"[The driver] went through the telephone pole into some shrubs and went under that porch," Saugus fire Capt. Rick Porter said at the scene. "He stopped short of the dashboard. He was injured but is expected to be okay."

The 64-year-old driver has not been identified.

The crash, located at Essex and Grove streets, caused some 1,500 people in the neighborhood to temporarily lose power. It was mostly restored by the afternoon.

The homeowner, David Jil, had been doing some renovations to the house and was not home at the time of the crash.

"It’s horrible. It’s hard for me. It’s a shocker right now I’m still shaking," he said.

The crash could have been worse.

"If the porch was maybe an inch or two higher, he may have may have been killed because he would have gone completely under the porch," Porter said.
