When they arrived at the scene, police said they saw a utility pole that was broken and hanging over the northbound lane of travel on North Street, and a red pickup truck on the side of the road with its airbags deployed.

The driver of the vehicle, Joshua Christian, 24, of Tewksbury, was removed from the pickup truck by police and charged with operating under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and a marked lanes violation. He was not injured in the crash but was evaluated by emergency medical technicians as a precaution.

Christian was expected to be arraigned Friday in Lowell District Court.

Crews with National Grid also responded to the scene and police warned that power in the neighborhood might be impacted while they work.
