Five people have been hospitalized and one person has been arrested in a crash that closed Mystic Valley Parkway in Medford.
Helser Msaravia, 22, of Chelsea, was driving in the southbound lane around 6 p.m. Thursday when he crossed into the northbound lanes and struck a BMW head-on, police said.
The driver of the BMW, a 35-year-old woman, and her passenger, a 39-year-old man, both of Medford, were transported to Massachusetts General Hospital with minor injuries.
Msaravia has minor injuries while the passengers in his car, a 20-year-old woman and a 16-year-old, were seriously injured. All three of them were transported to Massachusetts General Hospital, police said.
A detour was in place on the parkway at Pine Ridge Road for about two hours Thursday evening, police said.
Msaravia was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of liquor, negligent operation, unlicensed operation of a vehicle and marked lanes violation.
Bail was set at $20,000 and Msaravia will be arraigned when he is medically cleared, police said.
