Police identified a man who went missing while swimming at a pond Thursday and was later found dead in Milton, Massachusetts.
The victim who drowned in Houghton’s Pond was a 39-year-old Quincy man who was at the pond with his son, according to Massachusetts State Police. His name is not being released.

Investigators believe the man entered the pond to retrieve a soccer ball that had gone into the water. The man swam past the buoy rope and went underwater. Witnesses called 911 when he did not resurface.
Massachusetts State Police and the Boston Fire Department Dive Team conducted simultaneous line searches of different areas of the pond in an attempt to locate the man shortly after 7 p.m. Thursday.

The man’s body was recovered shortly before 8 p.m. by Boston Fire divers and brought to shore, where he was determined to be deceased by paramedics.
Fire crews from Milton and the Boston Parks Department were also on scene. The Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office was involved in the investigation.
