Drivers are being warned about delays after a freeway sign was knocked down and one person was hospitalized following a rollover crash involving a big rig carrying Corona Light beer Friday morning on Interstate 95 north.
The tractor-trailer rollover was reported sometime before 4:40 a.m. near the Grove Street exit at exit 22 in Newton, Massachusetts. Significant delays followed, as the crash caused two northbound lanes to shut down. As of around 1:15 p.m., the right lane and breakdown lane remained closed, according to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.
NBC10 Boston's Sky Ranger helicopter was over the scene of the crash, where traffic was building. Officials responded to the scene and a crane was deployed to attempt to recover the big rig.
A Massachusetts Department of Transportation official said the right lane and breakdown lane of the interstate remained closed as of 7:50 a.m. Cleanup crews were continuing to clear the scene.
One person was extricated from the vehicle and hospitalized, according to the Weston Fire Department and MassDOT. Their exact condition was not immediately available.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
