Man Killed in Daylight Shooting in Dorchester

A daytime shooting in Boston’s Dorchester neighborhood left a man dead Wednesday.

A man is dead after a daylight shooting in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood, police confirmed Wednesday.

Police said the shooting happened near the intersection of Paxton and Harvard streets. The nearby Brooke Charter School was placed in safe mode as a precaution.

The victim was identified Thursday as Elijah Pinckney, a 35-year-old from Dorchester.

The sound of bullets startled neighbors.

"I heard very clear and close about five gunshots. I came out and me and my roommate looked at each other and was like - somebody definitely got shot.”

One neighbor, who did not want to show her face or give her name said she saw a man shot in his driveway.  

"Possibly the wife was just screaming because I had just seen a body on the ground pretty lifeless.”

Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden said the shooting happened outside.

A man is dead after being shot Wednesday in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood.

"Too many guns on the street, and gun violence can shake our communities very quickly," Hayden said. "So here we are yet again with another ongoing concern. We're going to do anything we can to resolve this matter and solve this case."

He asked members of the community who saw or know anything about the shooting to come forward.

Two people who identified themselves as coworkers of the victim said he was stopping at home on break when he was shot. They described him as a good person, a hard worker and bubbly.
