An explosion at a gas station sent four people to a hospital Friday.

An explosion Friday in Bellingham, Massachusetts, sent four people to the hospital with burns, according to police and fire officials.

The explosion at the Sav More Gas Station on South Main Street was reported just after 6 p.m.

Authorities say two of the victims' injuries are severe. All four were brought to the burn unit at Rhode Island Hospital.

All four people who were hurt are employees of a contracting company that was conducting maintenance on a gas pump when the explosion occurred, investigators say.

The Bellingham Police Department, the Bellingham Fire Department and the office of Massachusetts Fire Marshal Jon Davine are investigating the cause of the blast.

No further information was immediately available.
