FAA investigates series of laser strikes on aircraft in Boston

A helicopter crew reported being hit by a laser while landing at a Boston hospital.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating multiple incidents in which aircraft were illuminated by lasers Thursday in the Boston area.

The FAA said JetBlue Flights 494 and 972 were impacted by a green laser around 5:40 a.m. Thursday night, the FAA said it was also investigating the illumination of a Sikorsky H-60 helicopter as it was landing at a Boston hospital around 8 p.m.

No injuries were reported in either incident.

Pilots reported 9,500 laser strikes to the FAA in 2022. 278 pilots have reported injuries from lasers to the FAA since 2010.

People who use those lasers face fines up to $11,000 per violation and $30,800 for multiple incidents.
