Fall River Elementary School Student Passes Away

The death of an elementary school student from Fall River, Massachusetts is under investigation by the Department of Children and Families.

An elementary school student from Fall River, Massachusetts, has reportedly passed away.

Fall River Schools Superintendent Matthew Malone said in a statement that the Mary L. Fonseca Elementary School student died Thursday evening.

The name and age of the fifth grad student has not been released at this time.

Fall River police referred all questions regarding the matter to the Bristol Country District Attorney's office, which has not yet released any details.

A spokesperson with the Department of Children and Families confirmed it had been notified of the situation.

"The Department of Children and Families received a report on this tragic situation and is investigating," said DCF spokesperson Andrea Grossman.

Grief counseling will be open to members of the school community from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Fonseca Elementary School, 160 Wall St.

"We thank you in advance for your understanding and support and ask you to keep the child’s family, friends, and Fonseca community in your thoughts as we all continue to deal with this very difficult situation," Malone said.
