19-Year-Old Passenger Killed in Crash on I-290 in Marlboro, Massachusetts

The investigation will determine if charges will be sought in the fatal crash

A woman riding in the backseat of a car was killed when another vehicle crashed into the back of the car she was riding in on a highway in Marlborough, Massachusetts.

The 19-year-old woman from Brimfield, whose identity is being withheld at this time, was pronounced dead at UMass-Lakeside Hospital.

The crash happened around 10 a.m. Thursday on Interstate 290, east of Exit 25.

A preliminary investigation shows a 2010 Dodge Caliber was traveling eastbound on I-290, and when it slowed in the left lane for traffic, a 2000 Jeep Cherokee crashed into the back of it. 

All four people in the Dodge, including the woman who died, were taken to UMass-Lakeside Hospital. There is no update on the conditions of the other three.

The driver of the Jeep, a 25-year-old man from West Boylston, was also transported to UMass-Lakeside Hospital with unknown injuries.

An investigation into the crash will determine if charges will be sought.

State police were assisted on scene by Marlborough Fire and EMS, Northborough Fire and EMS, and MassDOT.
