1 Dead, 1 Firefighter Hurt in Massive Blaze at NH Home

The firefighter was burned during a rescue attempt, but is expected to survive, according to state fire marshal's office

A person has died when a home went up in flames in Northwood, New Hampshire, on Thursday evening, officials said.

After the fire was reported about 8:40 p.m., Northwood firefighters found the building on First New Hampshire Turnpike engulfed in flames. They tried to find a person they were told was trapped on the second floor, but weren't able to, the Office of the State Fire Marshal said Friday.

One firefighter was burned during the rescue attempt, but is expected to survive, according to the department.

The name of the person who died wasn't released -- fire officials said that will be released after an autopsy is conducted on the body Saturday.

Investigators with the State Fire Marshal's Office continue to investigate the blaze, with help from local police and firefighters.
