A woman was taken to the hospital after she was attacked in an apparent home invasion in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, Thursday afternoon.

Melanie Russell says two strangers - a man and woman, kicked open her door, busted into her apartment, ran into her bedroom and threw her off the bed. They then punched her, used a stun gun and hit her in the face with a crowbar. Eventually, she says, her dog fought the attackers off and they left.

“He would cover my mouth and nose, because I would scream, and tell me to be quiet, and then saying in my ear ‘where is it? Where is it?’” Russell told NBC10 Boston.

Fitchburg police confirmed they were called the home on Blossom Street after the attack Thursday afternoon.

Police said they were still investigating what, if any, connection the pair had to Russell or what the motive may have been for the attack. She thinks they were looking for a package - the attack came several days after three other strangers showed up at her door looking for something.

“I did say to him like, ‘is this about that stupid package? I’m like ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about.’”

Police said they believe the attackers were specifically targeting the area and there is no threat to the general public.

Investigators are actively looking for suspects.

The investigation is ongoing.
