Twio of five pilot whales that were found stranded just off Chatham, Massachusetts, on Cape Cod, have died, according to the International Fund for Animal Welfare.
"These last couple of days have been incredibly rough on the team." said marine mammal rescuer Brian Sharp.

The organization said it worked with the harbormaster's office and U.S. Fish & Wildlife to assess and reach the animals.
Sadly, one animal died Saturday, another had to be euthanized Sunday after it couldn’t get out of the harbor, two of the whales made it out and a fifth whale is still swimming in the harbor and being monitored.

Cape Cod is known as having the most dolphin strandings in the world
Sharp says that’s because of the peninsula’s geography. He said the Chatham waters are an uncommon spot for strandings, but with the changing coastline, in part due to storms those waters become more accessible to animals he hopes that doesn’t mean we’ll see more strandings there as animals navigate the sandbars and tides.
