Car flees police across North Shore, hitting 100 mph before crashing

Three vehicles were involved in the crash in Gloucester, and all three drivers were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said

A car fleeing police across Massachusetts' North Shore, at times reaching 100 mph, crashed on Route 128 in Gloucester, leaving its driver and two others hurt, police said.

The car, a Toyota Camry, was first spotted speeding and weaving through heavy traffic near the intersection of interstates 93 and 95 in Woburn about 2 p.m., according to Massachusetts State Police.

It escaped the first trooper, but soon others spotted it on Route 128 north in Beverly — it made contact with an unmarked cruiser that was following the car, then kept going, and a marked cruiser chased after it.

The Camry headed toward Gloucester at about 100 mph, and when the pursuing trooper's gave the order to stop the chase, the Camry crashed, before the Annisquam River Bridge.

Three vehicles were involved in the crash, and all three drivers were taken to the hospital, police said. All are expected to survive.

Gloucester police described the crash as a roll-over accident.

The name of the Camry wasn't being shared as of Friday evening. What happened remained under investigation.

The crash temporarily closed Route 128 north between Crafts Road and Grant Circle on Friday.
