Man dead after canoe capsizes in Halifax, Mass.

Three other people, including one adult and two children, exited the water safely, authorities said

One man is dead after the canoe he was riding in capsized in Halifax, Massachusetts, on Sunday morning.

Police responded to the boat ramp on White Island Road, on the split of land between East and West Lake, shortly before 11a.m. following a 911 call for a capsized canoe with several people in the water, according to the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office.

Three people, including one adult and two children, exited the water safely, authorities said. The fourth person, a man, remained missing below the water’s surface.

The Plymouth County Technical Rescue Dive Team located the missing man in the water shortly before 1p.m. He was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities have not released the name of the victim. The incident remains under investigation.
