Emergency medical services arrived and took three people to an area hospital. One man later died of his injuries at the hospital. He has been identified as Martin Osier, 62, of Bremen, Maine.

Two other drivers were treated for what are believed to be minor injuries. There were no passengers in any of the cars.

Investigators said the chain of events started when Osier was driving south on I-95, near exit 7, and his car drifted into the left shoulder and sideswiped the cement barrier. The car continues down the highway with at least one tire partially flat. Two miles later, his vehicle stopped in the travel lanes, and he was rear-ended by another driver. Osier's vehicle was pushed into another lane, and a third vehicle then rear-ended it again.

I-95 south was closed at Exit 3B while state police investigated.

The specific details of the crash remain under investigation. Anyone who might have witnessed the crash is asked to call state police at 603-223-4381.
