An iconic newsstand in Harvard Square has shut its doors for good, the Cambridge Chronicle reports.
According to the paper, Out of Town News — located in the heart of the bustling Cambridge, Massachusetts student enclave — was seen boarded up Monday, over a week before it was set to officially close.
The closure comes after the business submitted a 60-day notice to end its lease at the kiosk, which is owned by the city.
According the Chronicle, the kiosk will undergo construction this spring and become a visitor center. Between December and April, a socially conscious pop-up, CultureHouse, will take over the space.
The move follows the closing of Crimson Corner, another iconic newsstand, in 2017.
