Officials initially said Monday that one person had died and another was seriously injured. They later said the second person had died after being transferred to a local hospital. The victims' names have not been released.

Investigators haven’t said if the two people knew each other, how old they are, and what exactly led to the injuries.

It also wasn't immediately clear if anyone had been arrested, or if the possible suspect is known to police.

The district attorney's office did say this is currently considered an isolated incident. Authorities do not believe there is a wider threat to the public at this time.

Further information was not expected Monday night. North Andover Police and the Essex County District Attorney's office are actively investigating.

The public was asked to avoid the area Monday as that investigation unfolded. Aerial photos from the scene showed multiple police and fire department vehicles parked in front of a home in the 200-block of the street.

Residents who live nearby said it was a shock to see it all happening.

"It’s pretty scary honestly," said Katrina MacLean, who lives nearby. "It’s just a nice community, and stuff like this has been happening more frequently in this area.”

“It’s just sad, I pray for the victims right now, not a lot of information coming out right now,” said Tom Anthony, who also lives nearby. “You’re taken aback, coming home from work and all of a sudden 114 is shut down.”

Another resident in the area told NBC10 Boston off camera that she just saw police at the home a couple of weeks ago.

Where the crime occurred is a mostly commercial neighborhood; it's a busy part of town with just a couple of homes in the immediate area.

People who live and work nearby are hoping for some answers as to what took place.

“Very surprised, nervous, nerve-wracking, just supposed to be safe, it is usually,” said Vanessa Risden who works across the street.
