Authorities have not said who they're looking for but one of the victims tells NBC10 Boston that the shooter is his sister's ex-boyfriend. He says his friend died trying to save them.

Darlin Garcia says they were hanging out with his sisters in their Lawrence apartment when one of his sister's exes busted in with a gun and started shooting at them around 1 a.m.

Neighbors woke up to police up and down Bennington Street.

"My wife wakes me up around 1 or 2 and this place was full of cops. I’ve never seen it before -- I’ve been living here over 30 years,” said Andres Delarosa.

"That's crazy to me," said Kyle Clark who lives two blocks away from where the shooting happened. "I'm shocked right now."

Garcia says they were trying to run for their lives when his friend tried to take the shooter's gun away, getting fatally shot in the process.

Darlin says he got a hold of the gun in the struggle, then the shooter looked him in the eyes and said, 'I really want to kill you, too.'

Now Darlin has a bullet wound on his arm, a bite mark above it and swelling in his face. And he’s worried the shooter will be back.

“What is this world coming to? Can’t even be safe in your own house?" Delarosa said.

Darlin says his sisters are now recovering in the hospital. The Essex County District Attorney’s office identified the person killed in the shooting as 29-year-old Enyer Santa Ferreira, of Lawrence.

The investigation is ongoing.
