Back in November, officers responded to Andy's Variety Package on Woburn Street around 8:37 p.m. for a report of an armed robbery and learned a man had shown what appeared to be a firearm, demanding cash and other items from a clerk. The suspect then ran across Woburn Street into a wooded area.

He was described as a man in his mid-20s, wearing a black sweatshirt with white strings, black pants, a navy blue backpack and white and black Nike sneakers with an orange or red swoosh.

Investigators said they believed the man had a Tec9-style firearm with an extended magazine.

Detectives obtained a search warrant for a Lowell residence at 12 Commonwealth Ave., and executed it on Saturday, Dec. 2, at which time Yancy was taken into custody.

The Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council Swat team assisted Tewksbury police with the arrest.

Through the search, police determined the firearm used during the robbery was a replica.

Dramatic surveillance footage shows the moment a masked gunman rushed into a convenience store, getting away with cash and other items.

"This was a collaborative effort from all agencies involved who worked tirelessly since this robbery to get this person off the street," said Tewksbury Police Chief Ryan Columbus said in a statement.

It was not immediately clear when Yancy was due in court, or if he'd obtained an attorney who could speak to the charges he's facing.
